With the Tour De Britain Cycle Race hitting Nottinghamshire, it was a matter of looking where we could get to and Wollaton fitted the bill. On arrival, Wollaton;s Chair man made the drinks and then donated £10 on behalf of the club towards the Charity Blog that is for FORGET ME NOT, a small charity that supports people with dementia and their partners and carers.

The game kicked in fine rain that became heavier during the match, but the Sugerbabes(wollaton) went in to the game without a win, but were first on the attack and went close several times.

On 15 minutes, Wollaton took the lead when the ball was played across for BEN WATSON to stroke home. Wollaton certainly pumped their game up and mistakes in the Bingham defence lead to them being 2-0 down on 24 minutes, when TOM SLADE pounced and doubled his sides advantage.

By now I had walked over to behind the goal and a mistake by the home keeper who dropped the ball at the feet of Bingham;s LEWIS RAY in the 33rd minute halved the score. Wollaton pressed back and nearly scored again when a header struck the post before bouncing to safety.

 In the 39th minute, Wollaton thought they had scored when the ball went over the goal line but the Assistant Referee raised his flag, the referee went over for a chat and ruled a free kick to the amazement to most in the crowd.

After the half time cuppa, Bingham began the brighter of the Second Half and on 55 minutes they were level through CHRIS BRADFORD whilst home keeper seemed to be on the floor injured.

Wollaton didnt give up and continued to press forward and on 70 minutes, a cross from the left side found the head of JOSHUA STEVENSON to give his side a 3-2 lead. Bingham pushed forward, whilst the homester pressed on the break and after 83 minutes, JOSHUA STEVENSON was on one on one with the visiting keeper who made a save but the attacker followed up to tap his side in to a 4-2 lead.

The Charity Blog Running Total now stands at a amazing £942.50p

QUICK DOUBLE GIVES KIRTON THE WIN

MANSFIELD HOSIERY MILLS FC 0 KIRTON BRICKWORKS FC 2

On arrival at the Hosiery Mills, I soon got the team line ups and enjoyed a cuppa, I was soon joined by Dan Bishop and Chris Sharpe, before Nick Willis and Russ arrived. 

Before kick off a minutes silence was taken for a young lady involved at Mansfield Hosiery Mills. I stood with the groundhoppers and was joined by a local hopper Dave Woodings.

From the kick off, it was the Millers who looked more likely to score, with Luke Greaves going close twice, but the Brickies began to come more in to the game and after 11 minutes, a ball in to the area, saw KYLE CLARKSON get the ball first and lob it over the top of Matt New in the Millers net to put his side in to the lead.

It was soon to become 2-0 to the visitors as after 14 minutes, Brandon Mersh the young Referee gave Kirton a penalty, to which JON ROWLEY stepped up and stroke home. The Brickies were beginning to push forward a lot more often and were unlucky when a long range shot hit the crossbar before being cleared. The Millers were reduced to long range efforts which most went high and wide.

The Second Half, The Millers came out with a more attacking attitude and on 54 minutes, they saw a wicked shot crash off the crossbar,  visiting keeper Lee Bowler was called in to making a couple of good saves.

The rest of the half became a midfield battle with both sides pressing forward, but in front of a healthy crowd for the neutral produced a very good match.

At the end of the match, I said good bye to the hoppers and Nick Willis kindly donated £20 and Chris Sharpe £5 to the Charity Blog which is for FORGET ME NOT, a small charity that supports people with Dementia and their carers and partners, so a BIG thankyou to Nick and Chris.

 Mansfield Hosiery Mills FC have also kindly pledged £1 per goal that they score in the 2018-19 season. The running total stands at a amazing £931.00.

CAMPS BAGS VICTORY FOR THE HOOD

Division Two

ELSTON UNITED FC 0 ROBIN HOOD COLTS FC 4

A routine away victory for Robin Hood Colts away at Elston United, who play their home matches at Coronation Street in Balderton, Newark. A lovely set up with a cafe and new changing rooms block.

On arrival, we managed to get the last parking space on the small car park, but someone did open up a large overspill car park later on as the teams began to arrive, as there was also cricket and bowls going on at the venue.

Hazel and Shawn loved it at this venue, as inside the cafe, they did some painting, Shawn painted a cat and Hazel a Garden Gnome.

With the team line ups, it was over to the pitchside, as there are 3 pitches here and this game was being played on the far pitch, then it turned out that the visiting goalkeeper hadnt arrived, so a quick alteration for the Colts seeing one the defenders keeping net for them.

The game kicked off and Elston had the first chance of the game, with a shot that flashed wide and Robin Hood began to press forward using Westerman on the left wing to provide for a quick attacking forward line. In the 12th minute, a cross from Westerman found GEORGE CAMPS who fired from 25 yards in to the top corner of the net to give his side the lead.

 After 14 minutes, the visitors thought they had doubled their advantage, when a through ball found Camps ran through and just caught the home keeper and the follow up finished in the net, but referee Scott Anderson ruled the goal out.

Elston again pushed forward and the stand in visiting keeper had to palm away a shot heading for the bottom corner of the net. After 25 minutes, a ball reached Jake Edward Smith who's shot was parried out by the home keeper for GEORGE CAMPS to follow up and tap home from close distance.

The Second Half saw much of the same, with the visitors on the attack and the home keeper keeping the scoreline down, but 51 minutes, a long Westerman throw fell to GEORGE CAMPS who scooped his his hat trick.

The team from Edwinstowe were now on constant attack and it was now a matter of when the next goal was coming and we had to wait until the 78th minute, when again Westerman crossed to the far post for GEORGE CAMPS to knock in his and his sides fourth goal of the match.

Referee Scott Anderson had a very good match

BEESTON SECOND HALF DISPLAY TAKES THE POINTS

Played on outside pitch @ Calverton MW

Must thank Rob Hillard for a lift to the match, with the impression that the game was to be played at Roko off Wilford Lane, it was found that Roko had double booked their pitches within hours of kick off, so all credit the home die who rang round and got a positive response from Calverton MW to make sure the game went ahead.

With both line ups got, a couple of folks began to arrive, as they were their to see another 6.30pm kick off in the AFC Top Valley v Nottingham Community match, but the 3rd pitch that match was supposed to go ahead on, was hit by vandels the night before, so switched to the main pitch with a 7.30pm kick off, so myself, Jim Bethell and his dad, Roger Rann and another gent watched the Netherfield Albion v Beeston game.

The game kicked off and the first half belonged to Albion who pushed forward and the Beeston keeper was called in to action a couple of times, but on 28 minutes, the ball was played in to the home sides area and the visitors took the lead when ROLAND TOMLINSON back heeled the ball through and in to the net.

Netherfield pressed forward and a couple of chances went begging.

The Second Half saw Beeston take control and on 55 minutes, a free kick was floated in from the left wing and BRIGHT AGANA headed home. A minute later, it should have been 3-0 when Agana missed a sitter from onside the 6 yard box in front of a open net.

Netherfield again forward again and had a one on one chance to reduce the arrears, but Burke in the Beeston net was equal and kept the ball out. With Netherfield pushing forward, this left gaps and Beeston ran in to them and on 80 minutes, their sub TOM O REGAN unleashed a 25 yard shot to make it 3-0 to the Orangemen.

Just as time was running down at the end of the game, TOM O REGAN made it 4-0 with a breakaway solo goal.

Must add that I felt that referee Thomas Bulse had a superb match and was well respected by both clubs.

TAYLOR;S BRACE LIFTS CAVS TO THIRD

GEDLING SOUTHBANK FC 0 FC CAVALIERS 3

Before kick off, a presentation was made to Gedling Southbank FC for most sporting club in Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division for last season, I must thank local mega hopper Malc Storer for kindly taking some photos.

Having got the line ups early and the presentation out the way, I stood at the side of the pitch with Malc and was joined by Wayne Morrison and his son.

The game kicked off and it was quite clear that Southbank were going to have a lot of defending to do on the evening, as the Visitors piled forward creating chance after chance, the only goal of the half coming after 8 minutes, when LIAM TAYLOR rifled home a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.

The Second Half continued to be played in the home half of the pitch and after 49 minutes, the home keeper adjudged to have dropped the ball and LIAM TAYLOR was there to tap the ball home, the goal stood despite calls from the Southbank players who either seemed the keeper had been fouled or the ball had gone out of play, Im not too sure.

After 65 minutes, Cavs put the result out of sight, when AKO ABDULLAH secured the points.

In the clubhouse after the match, I must thank Karl White of FC Cavaliers who kindly donated £10 to the Charity Blog and also Gedling Southbank Player Paul Gothard who kindly donated £5 to this seasons charity which is FORGET ME NOT, a small charity that supports people with Dementia and their partners and carers, where the Running Total is standing at a whopping £883.50p

AFC HAVE TOO MUCH FOR ELSTON

Nottinghamshire Senior League 

Division Two

AFC CLIFTON 4 ELSTON UNITED FC 0

AFC was informed on Friday that their usual ground at Charnwood would not be available, so it was a search for them to find a new ground for this match to go ahead, all credit to them, as they found Rushcliffe School and though I have been to watch football many times in the past, this being the first on the grass pitch.

Elston United are in their first season in the Nottinghamshire Senior League and are still settling in having lost their first three match of the campaign.

AFC went in to the game winning their first three matches but form sometimes counts for nothing, but this wasnt the case, as from kick off they ploughed forward and after just 11 minutes, they were in front when RYAN PEARSON cut in from the right hand side and unleashed his shot in to the net from a angle.

Elston werent here to make up the numbers and pressed forward and were nearly level on two occasions when on the first, the forwards lob was cleared off the goal line, then within 2 minutes Commander in the Clifton net pulled off a stunning save.

The Clifton side on 27 minutes doubled their lead, when CONNOR BOULTON fired in a 30 yard free kick to make it 2-0. With United playing n the counter attack, it left gaps at the back and on 39 minutes, a ball from the left wing found the head of ALEX RICHARDS who made it 3-0.

During the break, I joined Herbie and Sue and the rest of the spectators in time for the Second Half. Elston played a lot better in the half, whilst Clifton were wasteful with their chances and on another day could have scored a few more goals, but they did score in the 90th minute, when RYAN WATKINSON scrambled home his sides fourth of the afternoon.

Must mention the Referee George Dibbs who I felt had a very good match

After the match, last seasons Division Two player of the year award was presented to Ryan Pearson.
